Casting Call: Clark Duke and Ken Howard Join Comedy A.C.O.D.; Anthony Head Replaces Pierce Brosnan in PERCY JACKSON Sequel

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you this evening. First up, Clark Duke (Kick-Ass) and SAG President (and frequent 30 Rock guest) Ken Howard are the latest to join the comedy A.C.O.D. The title stands for “Adult Children of Divorce”, and the plot centers on a guy (Adam Scott) who has been caught in his parents’ ugly divorce of the past twenty years, and matters become even worse when his brother gets engaged.  Then the details of the feud are revealed in a definitive new book on children of divorce.

The already stellar ensemble cast includes Scott, Amy Poehler, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jane Lynch, Jessica Alba, Catherine O’Hara and Richard Jenkins. Variety reports that Howard will play Scott’s amicable stepfather and Duke will play Scott’s younger brother whose engagement forces the parents to meet once again. Duke is incredibly funny and Howard brings down the house on 30 Rock, so the two are very much welcome additions to an incredibly exciting project. Additionally, producers are recasting yet another role for the sequel to Percy Jackson & The Olmpians: The Lightening Thief. We recently learned that Nathan Fillion will be taking over the role of Hermes in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, and now Heat Vision reports that Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has been tapped to play Chrion in follow-up. The centaur part was filled by Pierce Brosnan in the first film, but for unspecified reasons Head will be stepping in this time around. Thor Freudenthal is directing the pic, which sees the return of Logan Lerman as the titular Percy. He embarks with his other demigod friends to the Island of the Cyclops (the Bermuda Triangle) in order to retrieve a Golden Fleece.

Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson are returning as well, with Lightening Thief director Chris Columbus set as producer. Other additions include Missi Pyle, Yvette Nicole Brown and Mary Birdsong as the three fates. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters opens on March 27th, 2013.

Lennon and Garant have made a nice living in recent years writing younger-skewing comedies like The Pacifier and the Night at the Museum films (they even wrote a book entitled Writing Movies for Fun and Profit). Hell Baby sounds like it has hints of Rosemary’s Baby, and for Corddry’s sake as a comedian I hope they’ve written a more adult comedy. As an actor, Lennon has appeared in numerous films including “I Love You, Man,” “Bad Teacher,” and the forthcoming comedy “What To Expect When Your Expecting,” which will be released in May.

Garant has directed such features as “Reno 911!: Miami” and “Balls of Fury,” which he co-wrote with Lennon.  He also directed numerous episodes of the television series, “Reno 911!.”  Additionally, Garant wrote the feature “Jessabelle,” which will begin production next month in Wilmington, North Carolina for Lionsgate Films and will be produced by Blumhouse Productions and Principato-Young Entertainment.

Their television credits include MTV’S “The State,” Comedy Central’s “Viva Variety,” and the long-running and hugely popular “Reno 911!,” which spawned a feature film, “Reno: 911!: Miami.”  Their first book, Writing Movies for Fun and Profit, was published last July and was a staple on the Los Angeles Times Bestseller List, and will come out in paperback this July (Touchstone Books/Simon & Schuster).

Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase Are Writing a New Comedy Script

As Ghostbusters 3 is looking less and less likely with each new non-update from Dan Aykroyd, the actor/screenwriter has announced that he’s now getting to work on a new comedy with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Chevy Chase. No plot details were given, but Aykroyd said that he’s beginning to start work on a script concept for a comedy movie with Chase. Aykroyd hasn’t had a script produced since 1998’s Blues Brothers 2000 (yeah, that movie actually happened) and Chase’s last writing credit was the short-lived The Chevy Chase Show in 1993, but apparently the two have an idea for a new comedy that they’d like to see come to fruition. Aykroyd made the announcement on his Facebook page:

“Chevy (Chase) and I are about to start work on a script concept for a comedy movie. Cannot say too much about the concept, but the joy of working with him again is one that I am extremely excited about. Chevy is one of my favourite people, and one of the great anarchistic and physically committed comedians in the business.”

This news might have been exciting 25 years ago, but Chase is consistently the weakest link on NBC’s Community. Furthermore, he recently revealed to Steve that he was working on his own Vacation script with co-star Beverly DeAngelo to counter the studio’s reboot of the franchise, and lets just say his plot idea for the Griswolds isn’t the sharpest. As for Aykroyd, I think he’s actually still quite funny, but his scripts generally leave something to be desired. There’s no guarantee that the script by Aykroyd and Chase will even get to a studio, let alone production, but at this point it appears they’re intent on working through the concept.
